I consider myself a story teller, be it an obvious plotline or introducing characters to the viewer’s own visual narrative. As a civilian artist for the USAF, at the request of the Pentagon I have documented operations overseas and at home, including deploying to Haiti and Guantanamo Bay to document earthquake relief efforts. My career has landed me on flight lines with the helicopter crews, working in my sketchbook - sometimes while balancing in a moving vehicle or in flight aboard a C130.
In collaboration with NASA, the Russian Space Agency and Richard Garriott, Expedition 18 to the International Space Station carried my original artwork to display in the first art exhibit in space. After receiving the official ISS stamp, “Wingman Blue” returned to Earth and made it’s terrestrial debut on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. A recent recipient of the American Society of Aviation Artists Nixon Galloway Golden Age of Aviation Award and Boeing Spirit of Flight, my paintings currently hang in the Pentagon, and are permanent additions to the USAF, Navy and USCG Collections. My work has been featured in the Air Force 60th Anniversary Exhibition at the National Gallery, the National Museum of the USAF, National Museum of Naval Aviation, Boston Museum of Fine Arts and various other museums and galleries across the country.
Recently, I have branched out into working en plien air in order to include more spontaniety and experimentation in my work. Working with the Cape Ann Plein Air Festival, I have been expanding my technique. I’m looking forward to advancing my skills in this challenging medium.
