I am so lucky! After many happy and fulfilling years as an educator, I am currently in a position to pursue my interests in art. I find myself immersed in a community of talented artists, many of whom have become my good friends. I am very thankful for their inspiration, support, friendship, and for challenging me to paint every day in any way.
I began painting pastels 10 years ago under the tutelage and friendship of a magnificent woman named Linda Fink. The three most important concepts that I learned from Linda were:
1. Relax when you paint.
2. Pink is everywhere.
3. When you are finished with your painting, kiss it with a touch of your favorite colors.
My interests are varied and I have been influenced by many genres and artists. Currently, the subjects of my paintings are inspired by the humbling colors and beauty of nature, the ever-changing weather and seasons of New England, and the occasional dramatic light that allows transcendence from an ordinary scene to one of extraordinary and breathtaking beauty. I also love to paint on non- traditional canvases including birch bark, stone, and glass.
My first love is still pastel, but I have recently branched into watercolor and oil and am inspired by the endless possibilities in all mediums. Although I am primarily self-taught, I have enjoyed the guidance of local artists Paula Mingolelli and Steve Previte. I have recently moved into my own space at the Western Avenue Studios in Lowell, MA, where I have the opportunity to create and grow in my artistic endeavors in a community of hundreds of local artists.
