Flowers...the welcome beacons of warmer seasons that make any and every place feel special. During the month of May, the Loading Dock burgeons with florals and other harbingers of spring, as Loading Dock Gallery artists team up with members of the Western Avenue Artist Association to present Full Bloom.
Why paint flowers? Maryellen Brown loves painting flowers to lift her spirits. Arlene Hammel believes that flowers serve to awaken special moments of the past."I think flowers connect with many great memories for all of us – they bring me right back to being side by side with my mother planting her favorite zinnias or to a seaside walk with a friend where the flower boxes were bursting with blooms.”
Capturing the essence of a bloom is not easy. As artist Laura Dicus describes, “It takes an engineer's understanding of complex structure, a musician's sense of rhythm and a mother's patience to paint an unfurling rose bud... not to mention the artist's eye for color and the challenge of control of the medium.” The artists in this exhibit present exquisite works in watercolor, oil, pastel, acrylic, alcohol ink and other mediums, in an impressive celebration of the colors and luscious vibrancy of the flower.
Full Bloom will be on display from May 31 through June 25 at Loading Dock Gallery, Western Avenue Studios, Lowell, MA. Please join us for a reception for the artists on Saturday, June 3 from 5 - 7pm, following Western Avenue Open Studios, noon – 5pm.
