My work is done using acrylic and oil paints, pastels, oil bar, and any drawing or painting medium on paper or canvas. I have engaged in a number of subjects.
In the Creation Myth Series I have described origin stories featuring powerful creator goddesses. My work counters the grand historical male narratives that were based on violence, battle and destruction. Goddess stories incorporate invention, nature, and life. They are the most common form of myth, passed orally from generation to generation and found in every culture throughout the globe.
I have used cups, pitchers, and bowls to symbolize the female body as a vessel. These recurrent symbols of emptiness and fullness of creativity, ideas and progeny ebb and flow, as does life. The state of the container is actively and continually changing.
In the Nonomonies Series I have shown a community of characters that interact with each other in play, movement, or just at random. They are brightly colored but neither plant, nor fish, nor animal, they are themselves. They take us to an edge that borders on the organic and the artificial. We can just enjoy them.
I created cut paper collages when in March 2020 it was advisable to stay at home. I was inspired by the objects in my surroundings. I found a new perspective in the favorite things I was accustomed to seeing everyday.
I have embarked on a new project of painting landscapes.
