Shared Vision explores the creations of artists Katherine DuBose and Susan Garry. Marvel at the captivating and mysterious world created with fiber, paperclay, silk, wire, paint, wood, and more. Garry’s unique felted wall art, vessels, and forms, and DuBose’s imaginative, unusual mixed-media sculptures reflect these artists’ creative vision.
DuBose holds a BFA in Visual Design with a major in illustration, yet cites her childhood encounter with the Golden Book of Fairy Tales (Ponsot and Segur, 1958) as the inspiration that has influenced her work. She describes the collection of “little beasties” in Shared Vision as representing her world of fantasy. This new artwork can be considered dark by some, yet “deliciously creepy” by most, compared to her lighter, whimsical pieces.
Garry, who holds a BA in Studio Art, spent the first half of her career as a graphic designer. After purchasing a wet-felted hat five years ago, and intrigued by the seemingly unlimited possibilities, she determined to teach herself how to make felt. She refers to felting as “alchemical”... a transformation of fiber, soap, and water into two and three dimensional works of art. Her sense of color, texture, form, and design animates this elegant, playful collection.
Please join us for a reception for the artists on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 5-7 PM, following Western Avenue Open Studios from noon to 5. Shared Vision will be on display from April 4-29, 2018.
